The day I discovered my older brother moonlighted as an assassin changed my life. I was a boy playing around with my father's new metal detector when I broke into his room and found my detector going crazy. Prying back floorboards and discovering secret panels in the wall, I discovered a treasure trove of guns and ammunition- among other things. The discovery shocked me. I remembered standing there. I couldn't hear anything but the static in my head, and felt nothing but the numbness in my hands. My mind tried to wrap itself around this discovery. Then my overactive imagination devised devious plots my brother might have against my family. Terrified, I fled from the room and never looked back. I remember talking to my dad about military school and wanting to enlist as soon as I was of age. In reality, I just wanted to get away from him. No longer could I look at his face over a plate of spaghetti at the dinner table and feel calm and safe. I hated my parents had to stay behind, but I dared not tell them what I discovered. Years later and no one in my family was harmed by my brother's "Career." But as I returned home a decorated soldier, I learned more about my brother. In an odd twist of events, we ran into each other. Somehow everything faded away, and my experience with death seemed to erase all my fears. Just as we were getting close, I lost him. One instant he was there and the next he was gone. I might never have known who could be at fault if I didn't know about his past and wasn't there at the time of his demise. Wracked with anger, I have made it my mission to take revenge for his death. His profession might not have been the most honest, but I knew now that my brother was a good man. And he'd been taken from me all too soon. Yes, revenge was necessary.
