== Definition ==
The term "sport" is rooted by the word of old French ofport which means entertainment, physical pleasure or of the mind. By crossing the Channel, Desport turns into "sport" and evacuates from its field the general concept of leisure to focus on physical activities alone. The German language admits the term "sport" and its English definition in 1831; France used it for the first time in 1828. Sport, unlike the term ofport, excluded board games or spirit games that were the joy of a gargantua. The border between games and sports is not very clear, however.
Modern sport is defined by three essential elements:
* The implementation of one or more physical qualities: endurance, resistance, strength, coordination, address, flexibility activities, etc.
* A practice mainly oriented towards competition
* These pillars which mainly highlight the organization of different sports disciplines in no way exclude practices such as sport-law, sport-adventure, sport-health, school sport or physical and sports education. If the competition is predominant, there are however other forms of practice rather highlighting pleasure, health, education or fulfillment.
